It’s always interesting to see how different golf holes can look at different times of the day. I think there is no 100% accurate answer on when the exact time is best to portrait a certain golf hole because there are far too many variables for that, it’s good to be prepared and analyze properly before. That will help you! Normally the pinnacle moment for a golf hole is around sunrise or sunset but I think it’s very important not to limit ourselves to this time period only.
This recent photo that was captured during a late evening under the stars – was produced just as an alternative shot to the hundreds of other photos already captured during the daytime of the same hole. The green is actually partially lighted up of a moving golf cart since this was captured in between shots when the kind pro player Nivel collected some glowing golf balls.
A longer exposure here allowed the little cloud above the green to move a bit making it a bit blurry.
To capture a similar photo during an evening like this I would recommend using a steady tripod, bring a reliable flashlight in order to see properly and use a good lens usually with a bit higher ISO. Also make sure to use manual focus. To paint with light in darker scenes can also be a fun creative way to produce new photos while you learn how to light up scenes.
